Programs for Adults

(click here for our Yahoo! calendar of events)

Adult Education

Adult Education programs provide information about a wide variety of religions and philosophies, including the major religions of the world, earth-centered traditions, and secular philosophies of life. MPUUC educational programs also provide practical guidance in dealing with everyday problems, such as workshops on communication and personal relationships. Some of our programs are experiential: spiritual growth workshops, our annual spiritual retreat, opportunities for meditation, mandala workshops. For current classes, check What's Happening Now or consult our monthly Newsletter (to get a copy mailed to you, contact us).

Caring Circle

With caring hearts and open minds, the Caring Circle is there when someone in our congregation needs an extra hand, from providing dinners, transportation, and shopping, to house chores and child care.

Children's and Youth's Religious Exploration (CaYRE) Committee

The Children's and Youth's Religions Exploration Committee, formerly known as Lifespan Learning, works with our Director of Religious Education to support our childrens religious education.

Environmental Team

Mission Peak's Environmental Team focuses on local environmental issues. They take action by participating in local tree plantings and creek cleanup activities. They also work to support local initiatives to protect sensitive natural areas and limit growth on the edges of the city.

Click here or check our What's Happening Now! calendar for their latest activities.

Facilities Committee

The purpose of this committee is to help us settle into our new church home on the United Methodist Church campus. Example projects are building a storage shelf above the stage and erecting a visible sign out front.

Membership

The Membership Committee meets monthly to plan and coordinate activities which help welcome newcomers and encourage them to get involved in the life of the congregation. They contact visitors to the congregation who sign the guest book, to invite them to activities such as Get-Acquainted Dinners, Inquirer's classes, and In-gathering Ceremonies to recognize new members.

Pastoral Associates

Pastoral Associates work in association with the minister to provide nonemergency, ongoing, confidential, caring support for members and friends of the congregation. Pastoral associates commit to a year of service at a time. At the beginning of the year, a fairly intensive training retreat is held, to acclimate the associates to their roles. Associates meet monthly to provide support for each other, discuss confidentially the situations being handled at the time, and receive additional training. As part of their ongoing care of congregants and friends, they often coordinate with the Caring Circle.

Peak Performers (MPUUC's choir)

If you enjoy singing - in the car, concert hall, or wherever - we'd love to have you sing with the Peak Performers about once a month during the Sunday Service and 2-3 times a month for practices. Instrumentalists are also welcome and have been used for accompaniment. We have fun and enjoy creating meaningful music for our worship services. As Jo Ann says, "It's is just like singing in the shower, except for the water and being alone."

Potlucks and Social Activities

Potlucks are held periodically during the year, sometimes on a Saturday evening. Included are game nights, sing-a-longs, an international night, special holiday activities, and an annual camping trip. Dates are listed in the MPUUC Yahoo! calendar.

Publicity

Publicity promotes awareness of this congregation in the larger community, usually by sending calendar items and press releases about church activities to area newspapers.

RAD - Racial Awareness and Diversity Task Force

The RAD Task Force works to promote increased ethnic and racial awareness and diversity in our congregation, in accord with our inclusive philosophy.

Small Group Ministry

Groups of six to ten people meet twice a month to explore individual stories of faith and spiritual topics of interest. For more information click here.

Social Concerns Committee

The Social Concerns Committee encourages education, dialogue and action on social issues. Members coordinate community service opportunities for the congregation and facilitate participation in UUA and UU Service Committee social action programs. An important part of the Social Concerns Committee's work is the Environmental Committee.

Stewardship

The Stewardship Committee plans and organizes the annual Spring Stewardship drive and all meetings related to it. They also coordinate the on-going canvassing of new members.

Sunday Services Team

The Sunday Services Team recruits and trains volunteers to help transform our rented space into a worshipful room on Sunday mornings. Individuals help with Aesthetics, Setup, Greeting, Ushering, Takedown, Coffee Preparation, and Goodies.

Welcoming Congregation

Mission Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation welcomes a diversity of people. We are intentionally welcoming to people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender. We are an official UUA Welcoming Congregation, having worked through a curriculum that consciously examines homophobia, heterosexism and what it means for heterosexual people to be allies to people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender. We welcome all people who share our values, regardless of race, age, gender or sexual orientation, ethnicity, cultural heritage, social status, or physical ability. Click here to see our current activities.

Women's Group

The mission of Caravan Women, our MPUUC women's group, is to build a community of friendships, support and sharing among the women of Mission Peak. Meetings are held twice a month and are listed in our What's Happening Now! calendar.

Worship Associates

The Worship Associates meet quarterly with the minister to plan the Sunday worship services by establishing general topics, speakers, and coordinating music and special days and events. They work with the minister (whether it's the regular minister, a guest or a lay leader) to plan and participate in a specific worship service. Training sessions are provided for new and continuing Worship Associates.
