Mission Peak's Spiritual Portrait

Sally Ahnger, Director of Religious Education

Sally Ahnger became our Director of Religious Education in August, 2003. She brings an extensive management background to her new position, along with experience coordinating children's religious education at the UU Church of Palo Alto.

We appreciate Sally's commitment to children's religious education, her creativity, and her problem-solving ability. We are looking forward to working with her, and we hope this is the beginning of a long professional relationship.

Sally is enthusiastic about Unitarian Universalism. "I feel it is crucial in today's world environment for children to get a good education in the UU principles of respect for all people, and in understanding other religions of the world."

Sadly, Sally's last Sunday with us is June 22. In mid-August we will welcome Kevin Drewery as our new Director of Religious Education, our first male DRE in the history of Mission Peak.

Information about Kevin Drewery, Our New Director of Religious Education

Mission Peak has hired Kevin Drewery as our new Director of Religious Education, to begin in August after the retirement of Sally Ahnger. Kevin has been the Director of Lifespan Faith Development at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Las Vegas NV since 2003. He has broad experience in UU religious education, and comes very highly recommended by those who know him, both at Mission Peak and beyond.

This autumn Kevin will begin his second year of study for his Master of Divinity degree at Starr King School for the Ministry, having been part of Starr King's distance-study program last year. In addition to serving since 2003 as Director of Lifespan Faith Development, Kevin has been a UUA trainer for the Our Whole Lives program, and since 2004 the Sexuality and Our Faith program for grades K-1 and 4-6.

Most recently, Kevin has been Religious Education Consultant for the Pacific Southwest District of the UUA, where he has played a wide variety of roles, including facilitating new DRE start-ups and Religious Education retreats. Among numerous distinctions, Kevin received the 2007 Pacific Southwest District's award for Distinguished Service to the Cause of Unitarian Universalism by a Religious Professional. This is only the second time this award has been given to a non-ordained religious professional.

Children of all ages may be pleased to know that Kevin counts the Harry Potter series and LEGOS among his many interests.
