Sunday Services for this Month
February 5 - Don’t Believe Facebook You Only Have 150 Friends Rev. Jeremy D. Nickel Social Networks have provided the illusion of relationships with laughable numbers of people. But when it comes to meaningful human systems, it seems that 150 is about the limit. I know this is very much on the minds of many at Mission Peak as we explore the idea of a second worship service. This Sunday we will explore this topic as we continue our congregational conversation about our direction. Note: During the service, a special Standing on the Side of Love Award will be awarded to Fremont’s late Mayor Wasserman. Worship Associate: Kathy Wallcave Music: Mark Kahn February 12 - Sex Paul K. Davis Sex is much more than just pleasure and reproduction. Such little known creatures as paramecia and rotifers, plus better known creatures like lizards and baboons, can help place human sexuality in perspective. The history of religious attitudes toward sex has been strange, and often in conflict with scientific facts, and even with supposed religious principles. I will present my claim that nature offers a variety of purposes for sex and of forms of sexuality, that neither the Bible nor the founders of Christianity establish the restrictions commonly associated with Christianity, and that a proper morality of sex flows from Unitarian-Universalist principles, and is consistent with scientific fact and the Judeo-Christian tradition. Worship Associate: Calista Ames Music: Brenda Paddon February 19 — Tiptoeing Into the Boundless Ocean: A Beginner’s Thoughts on Process Theology DeAnna Alm Like many UUs, I have had some difficulty with the idea of God. What does the word really mean? Is there a God that I can – or want to – believe in? Rev. Jeremy Nickel’s October 2010 sermon on process theology illustrated some ideas that felt true to me in a more intense way than I had ever experienced before. Please join us for a second look at this newer view of theology. Worship Associate: Holly Ito Music: Peak Performers February 26 — Failing to Grow Up Rev. Jeremy D. Nickel What is the most important lesson I have learned through my progression from child to adult? Come and find out! This is an intergenerational service. This service will also include multiple child dedications. Worship Associate: Allysson McDonald Music: Peak Rocks Back to Top
